Apple, Samsung, Nokia Smartphones Beats 2Q

NEW YORK - Apple and Samsung Electronics extended to the head of the list of manufacturers of smartphones in the world during the second quarter, blowing past Nokia and Research In Motion BlackBerry's manufacturer, according to research firm IDC.

Samsung of Korea has the largest increase, from 4 in the first quarter of the 2 nd in the second, on the strength of their phones Galaxy running Google Inc. Android software. It sold 17.3 million smartphones in the second quarter versus 10.8 million in the first, according to IDC.

Apple Rose at No. 1, taking the place of Nokia, selling 20.3 million iPhones, against 18.7 million in the first quarter. Exile Finnish Nokia, a leader for a long time for the third. Apple is still top of Nokia high water mark of 28.1 million phones in the neighborhood.

"But given the momentum of Apple in the smartphone market, it can not be a question of whether Apple will make this step, but when," says IDC.

Curiously, Apple records sales comes nearly a year after she released the latest model, the iPhone 4, and is still selling millions of iPhone 3Gs even older. Competitors like Samsung put out new ones every few months.
Nokia sold 16.7 million smartphones, a sharp decline from 24.2 million the previous quarter. The company is struggling to find an answer to the iPhone. Nokia is now the transition to the Smartphone software, Microsoft Corp., but first Windows Mobile will not be available before the end of this year at the earliest.

Canada's RIM was down to third to fourth place, because he has seen a drop in sales of BlackBerry in the first quarter to another. While Nokia has had trouble updating its line of high-class to compete with the touch-screen phones like the iPhone. It has launched five new models with updated software this week.

HTC Corp. of Taiwan remained in fifth place, but is experiencing rapid sales growth. Like Samsung, which focuses on Google's Android software to their phones.
